Harper Engineering's Community Impact

Our Community Outreach team has members from across the company. We meet regularly to brainstorm on how Harper Engineering can be involved and help in our community. After selecting a cause or project that we'd like to support, we encourage all of our coworkers to join us; these events are always fun, rewarding, and great for team building. For example, before the holiday season, we usually organize a food drive where we create teams within the company and have a friendly competition to see which team can collect the most food items for a selected non-profit organization.

One of the employees shared, "For me, having fellow employees volunteer at the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Tacoma was incredibly meaningful. Having lost my mom in January of this year, after an 11-year battle to Younger Onset Alzheimer's, it meant so much to me to have colleagues latch on to the mission of the Alzheimer's Association and show up on their weekend to lend a hand."

The holiday season is a great time for Harper's employees to give back to our community. In the month of November, we put together an employee food drive and made it a fun competition where employees are divided into departments. We set a daring goal of gathering 1,000 pounds towards our November Food drive and we are thrilled to announce that we have exceeded our expectations, with a grand total of over 1,400 pounds! It's a fun way to create some healthy team competition all in the spirit of giving to those in need within our community!

Every year, our organization sets aside an amount of money to donate to local charities. In October, each member of the Outreach Committee votes on three charities from a larger list, the top three charities with the most votes are moved forward and offered as choices to our employees. In November, employees then vote on the order in which each charity receives their donations, the top vote getting the highest percentage of donation money, the second top vote receiving the second highest percentage of donation money, and the third receives the third highest percentage of the donation money.

Harper has a long history of giving back to the Renton community. Mr. Harper established a fund with the Renton Regional Community Foundation to specifically benefit Renton area youth that the company has donated to yearly after his passing. The company set up a scholarship fund with RRCF in 2016 to support students seeking post-high school education and training related to the aerospace industry.

Each year, we host an elegant Christmas party to celebrate the season, providing a fantastic opportunity for employees to dress up, unwind, and enjoy a festive atmosphere with delicious food, drinks, and great company. It's a wonderful way to celebrate outside of the office, break the ice, and strengthen connections across the team. The event also includes a special recognition ceremony where we honor employees for their years of service and present the Employee of the Year award, voted on by the entire team to acknowledge outstanding contributions throughout the year.

In 2025, Harper will continue to strengthen its community engagement through several impactful activities. We plan to organize two volunteer events that will not only engage our team but also foster meaningful connections with the community. Additionally, we will conduct three donation drives, starting with a coat drive in January 2025, to support those in need.

To ensure these events foster a sense of community and belonging within the company, we will carefully select activities that align with our values and resonate with our team members. By involving employees in the decision-making process, we aim to create opportunities that give everyone a sense of purpose and pride in contributing to the greater good.
